The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham is a municipality of London outside Greater London, England, with a population of 165,700 and an area of 36.09 square kilometres.

 

 

Barking is an area in the eastern suburbs of London, England, and belongs to the Barking-Duggenham London Borough in the administrative division.

 

Barking is located 8.8 miles (14.2 kilometres) east of Charing Cross and is one of the 35 centres in the Greater London area set forth in the London Plan. Barking belonged to Essex County in history. In 1965, Barking was included in the Greater London area.

 

 

Dagenham is a large suburb in east London, England. It belongs to the London Borough of Barking-Duggenham in the administrative division.

 

Dagenham is located 11.5 miles (18.5 kilometres) east of Charing Cross. It was a rural area until 1921, but its population increased rapidly after the 20th century. In 2011, Dagenham had a population of 43,362 people.

 

 

 

The traffic in the area is also very convenient. Barking Station is located in East London and is one of the stations of the British National Railway, the London Overground Railway and the London Underground.

Historically speaking, most of the Dagenham area remained undeveloped until the London County Council began to build the large Becontree estate in 1921.

 

The population of the area increased significantly in the 20th century. The parish of Dagenham became an urban district in 1926 and a municipal district in 1938.

 

 
 

Famous scenery

 
 

 

 

Valence House on Becontree Avenue is the only surviving place among the five estates in Dagenham. It dates back to the 13th century and is located in a park, partially surrounded by a moat.

 

Valence House is a local history museum in the borough of Barking & Dagenham, London. It displays artefacts and archives that tell the lives of the people of Barking and Dagenham. The collection also includes portraits of the Fanshawe family, family documents and other memorabilia.

The Marks Manor House is a large 15th-century elevated building that was demolished in the early 19th century. During World War II, the Royal Artillery used the adjacent area as anti-aircraft artillery; later a German POW camp was established there.
