Wandsworth takes its name from the Wandsworth River. Like London as a whole, Wandsworth underwent much of its expansion during the Industrial Revolution. From the modern flats that now line the river to the shopping centre to the south, it rose from the ruins of these bomb blasts.

History
There is no doubt that Wandsworth takes its name from the Wandsworth River. Like London as a whole, Wandsworth underwent much of its expansion during the Industrial Revolution. Wandsworth's connection with the Thames provided it with the tributaries needed to dominate the new industrial age.
The Great War of 1914 to 1918 and the Second World War also played a huge part in shaping Wandsworth's history, with over 738 high explosive bombs dropped on Wandsworth, according to statistics. Entire streets were completely lost and a great deal of infrastructure was razed to the ground.
From the modern flats that now line the river to the shopping centre to the south, this has largely shaped the "Wandsworth" of today, which has risen from the rubble of these bombs.

Royal Victoria Patriotic Building

The Royal Victorian Patriotic Building is a large combined Victorian and Gothic Revival building located off Trinity Road in Wandsworth, London. It was built in 1859 as the Royal Victorian Patriotic School.
